I hated "working out". I mean truly disliked it. After my 40th birthday I knew I had to do something. The weight had started to creep up and wasn't going away. A girlfriend introduced me to Nia in April of 2009 and I instantly fell in love! Nia NGT trainers Shannon & Jule showed me that movement could be healing, fun and for everyBODY. After only taking six Nia classes I completed my Nia White Belt training in June of 2009. Soon thereafter I completed the Nia 5 Stages certification with Debbie Rosas in August.

I began to teach Nia in 2010 and completed both my Green and Blue Belt trainings with Carlos AyaRosas. What a gift to have been able to study with Carlos before he retired. These belts have enabled me to become both a better teacher & student. It is amazing to realize the science, heart & soul that has gone into the Nia program.

My intention for 2011 is to fully emBODY all three of my belts before moving on to the brown belt in 2012. Each week we will explore one of the thirteen principles for the Nia white, green & blue belt trainings. I have just audited the Nia 5 Stages training this February and plan on teaching workshops as well as classes at my retreats. I personally have experienced the benefits of the Nia 5 Stages practice and want to share them with my community.

HOOP DANCE

I discovered Hoop Dance via my fellow Nia Blue Belt friend Blythe TwoSisters in the spring of 2010. When Diane from BodyHoops came to town last fall I just knew I had to become certified to teach. I am now a level II certifed BodyHoops instructor and teach 2 Hoop Dance classes a week.

Did you know that you can burn up to 100 calories every ten minutes just by hooping? This upbeat, aerobic workout blends the invigoration of cardio with a mind-body connection while improving balance, flexibility and core strength. No prior hula hooping experience needed. Just come ready to have fun!! Classes are set to music & focus on basic hoop moves on the waist, hips and off the body. Hoops are over-sized and slightly weighted to allow everyBODY to get moving. I am also a passionate hoop creator! In addition to teaching I also sell custom hoops. I always bring hoops to my classes for purchase and I can create a custom hoop for YOU!
